Painting Upgrades During the Summer !
The Wonders of Learning / 'it's a Kid's place !" Sunday School wing received a huge paint upgrade this Summer. Debe Emerson, Tyler Emerson and Blake Wyatt completely repainted the entire wing a week in July. New bulletin boards have been added by Wonders and new molding is planned for the near future, as well.
Room #113 in the Elementary wing just got a colorful face lift, also ! Our Trustees did an excellent job and the new colors are an exciting improvement ! Thank you to everyone who participated and to Wonders of Learning for sharing their paint with Children's Ministries.
Our Nursery Playground Upgrade is now complete !
Rock was delivered to our parking lot Saturday, April 28th as the Ohio company, American Safety Surface & Recreation Company’screw was traveling up from California. They arrived after Church Sunday, April 29th and began work at 1:15. They worked until 7 pm that first day and then started again Monday morning for the final top coat of rubber.
The bottom pour is totally black and made of recycled tires. It sits on 4 to 6” of crushed rock that is well tamped. The top pour is new rubber, ½” thick – and a mixture of black and medium green specks. The rubber surface is not only soft and child friendly, but it’s also porous - so puddles of water will not be an issue. The specks will hide future damage and the manual we received provides instructions for rubber repairs, when needed.
They did a very neat job of bringing the rubber material right up to the sidewalk edge and they crowned it well for draining during heavy rain. The colors we chose are those that are the most fade resistant and the green matches the fence slats and the surrounding trees very nicely.
With the 5% savings we received from this company by confirming our bid by a certain date and moving quickly to be included in their Pacific NW projects, we saved $289 which we are applying to playground toys and equipment. We have purchased two adorable self-propelled riding cars so far, and we have ordered a new Little Tikes Playground Climbing Toy with Slide. The children have been enjoying it every sunny Sunday since and bouncing off the rubber after their tumbles with no injury.
Building Kitsap Families, a non-profit organization and publishers of the book, Great Adventures for Kitsap Peninsula gifted Children’s Ministries $ 4,287.94 from book sale profits – providing most of the funds needed. The CM Budget was given an additional $1,500 for this improvement in the 2012 Budget. And Children’s Ministries SCRIP funds provided the remaining amount for a total cost of $ 5,790.00, installed.
We have suffered that pea gravel for about 25 years !! BUT NOW – No More !!
To God be the Glory !!
